Muir Musical Background
Launched in 1991 by a Muir Sophomore, Orren Webber, with a vision for a full-scale musical production to provide an outlet for students interested in musical theatre who need not be theatre majors. Orren directed the first three productions: Pippin, Into the Woods, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat before he graduated. The Musical Ensemble has coordinated and produced 32 productions (with a 1-year hiatus). It is the largest and only wholly student-directed & produced musical theater event on the UC San Diego campus.
Despite originating at Muir College, the production is comprised of 75-80 dedicated undergraduate students representing all seven colleges. The musical is open to all students to build up our band, cast, and production team. Some past musicals have included Rocky Horror Show, Pippin, Sunday in the Park with George, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Once on This Island, Company, Jesus Christ Superstar, Big Fish (virtual Performance), A Chorus Line, and American Idiot.
